What is Twitter?
Twitter is all about building relationships. It is a real-time social messaging platform that uses short (140 characters or less) text messages. You send a text message via Twitter and your message will automatically be broadcast (like CB radio) to whoever is choosing to follow you (your friends) and be publicly viewable on the web. You can use Twitter via a web interface, SMS text message on mobile phones, IM, or many third party applications.
Infor will be using Twitter at its virtual user conference, Inforum 2009, to facilitate relationship building, creating new relationships, special announcements, and more.
People often send Twitter messages (also called Tweets) to:
- Share what they're doing right now
- Offer interesting web links
- Send out an Impromptu meetup invite
- Ask questions or look for feedback
- Start conversations with others
- Share thoughts and opinions
- Send a reminder to themselves
- Connect and meet like minded people
If you are already using Twitter:
1. Follow http://Twitter.com/infor or text FOLLOW Infor to 40404 on your phone.
2. Follow http://Twitter.com/hashtags (so your posts can be indexed).
3. Mark all your posts about
4. To send your posts to Infor, start your posts with @infor
5. To send private posts to Infor, start your posts with D infor your message
6. To track anything Inforum related via SMS, send an SMS text message to 40404 with the following message:
a. track vi09
b. untrack vi09 (to stop)
How to sign up (quick method):
1. Send an SMS text with the following: JOIN Infor to:
a. 40404 for US followers
b. 21212 for Canadian followers
c. 5566511 for Indian followers
d. +44 762 4801423 for all other international followers
2. Complete sign up later on the website: http://Twitter.com/account/complete.
3. Remember to also follow http://Twitter.com/hashtags (so your posts can be indexed) and mark your posts with #vi09 (just add it at the end of your post).
How to sign up:
1. Go to http://Twitter.com/infor and click 'Join today!'
a. Choose a username, etc. and sign up.
2. Skip the Find Friends page for now.
3. Click on 'Settings' at the top of the next page.
4. Update your name, time zone, location, and Save.
5. Click on the Devices tab and enter your phone number and Save.
6. You will be given a 6 letter code.
7. Send a SMS text message with the 6 letter code to:
a. 40404 for US followers
b. 21212 for Canadian followers
c. 5566511 for Indian followers
d. +44 762 4801423 for all other international followers
8. Note that by default, Twitter only sends Direct messages to you, on your phone, but you can can change your preferences at anytime.
9. Your account is now setup. Start following Infor using the instructions above.
